Foundation Studies

A Foundation Studies Program will reopen at our school in the Fall. It is a returning program that ran from 2002-2012, with over 100 students encountering Anthroposophy (the philosophy underlying Waldorf education) through observation exercises, lecture presentations, and artistic work. The program is essential for anyone who wishes to understand Waldorf education at a deeper level or is contemplating becoming a Waldorf teacher one day.
Each morning is composed of both artistic activities (some combination of singing, movement, painting, modeling, and recitation) and an in-depth introduction to the philosophy itself.
Elan Leibner and Pamela Shafer, who previously ran the program, have been invited to run it again. Elan was a class teacher at WSP for more than twenty years. He has studied and lectured about Anthroposophy and Waldorf education extensively, and served as the Head of the Pedagogical Section Council of North America from 2012-2023. Pamela Shafer taught at the WSP for over twenty years as a special subject and class teacher. The artistic studies will be led by a team of highly trained and experienced practitioners in the respective disciplines.
For some past students, this program was the beginning of a professional training; for others, it was a way to understand their life journey. The program created a strong bridge between parents and teachers because the educational approach was understood more deeply by more members of the community.
The fall semester will consist of 4 Sunday mornings:
8:30-1:00. October 12th, 19th, 26th and November 2nd. The cost for the four sessions is $400.
We hope to provide scholarships for those in need. Graduates of the WSP Foundation or another Foundation can join all or part of the program for a pro-rated cost. Elan is planning to bring the study this time with a new direction. We are planning the Spring session in the month of March.
