Soil is an essential part of any garden. It is the home for planted seeds, which keeps them safe and nurtures them as they grow roots and sprout up towards the sun. The contents of the soil will affect the way that your plants are growing. To find out what is in the soil in your own garden, you can conduct your own soil sedimentation test at home by following the instructions of WSP Gardening teacher Valerie Leone. In this video, made for our students as part of our distance learning program, Ms. Leone will explain how you can discover the makeup of your garden's soil using only a glass jar and some water.
