7th/8th Grade Sculptural Arts: Spoon Carving

In their Sculptural Arts class, the 7th/8th Grade class are sculpting spoons and bowls out of blocks of wood. This morning, they began their first step in shaping the hollow of the utensils, using hot coals to create an indent in the wood. The class attempted to build a fire that would heat charcoal until hot enough to be applied to their wooden blocks. They will continue to shape these sculptures by carving and sanding the wood until it is no longer a block but a functional item they can use at home.
