What is SCRIP?

SCRIPs (which means money) are gift certificates. The school buys these gift certificates from participating stores at discounts ranging from 5%-15% and then you can purchase these gift certificates at face value from the school, and use them to make purchases at your favorite stores.

Here is an example: Suppose you usually spend $500 a month at Shop Rite, which offers our school SCRIP at a 5% discount. If you buy Shop Rite SCRIP certificates worth $500 from the school instead of paying Shop Rite directly, the school earns $25 per month on your behalf without any extra cost to you!

Next, imagine if all the families in the school used SCRIP for their grocery purchases for the whole the school year. That would mean the school would raise about $20,000!

Our new scrip program generates income for our school with a percentage of your purchases being donated to the school by local and national retailers. Parents and other school supporters purchase scrip, which looks and works just like gift certificates or gift cards, except that the school receives a percentage of the face value of the scrip. For example, a $20 scrip coupon costs $20 to purchase, and is worth $20 at the store — but the school gets a percentage (typically 5-10%) as a donation, at no cost to the purchaser. For national retail stores, we use Great Lakes Scrip Center—for more information check out their website www.glscrip.com.

Order forms for local scrip and national scrip are available on the parent table in the Golden House kitchen. All order forms can be dropped off, with cash or check payment, in the school payment drop box. Orders received by Monday at 3:00 p.m can be picked up the following Monday morning. Orders can also be mailed home.
