eurythmy
Eurythmy is taught as a special subject in Waldorf Schools all over the world. This new art of movement expresses the sounds of language and the elements of music in a visual way. In eurythmy, the body becomes an instrument which can bring out the otherwise hidden laws that form the foundation for speech and music. 

Pedagogically, eurythmy fosters greater coordination and a healthy orientation for the growing child. It also helps the child to listen sensitively and balance this listening with corresponding movement. Eurythmy helps children develop a social awareness as well. By moving together in patterns, they enhance their sense of the group. 

Much of the work is coordinated with the curriculum. In the first grade, for example the teacher uses fairy tales and poems as a background to the forms and gestures. In later grades the children act out characters and dramatic situations, both as individuals and in groups. By the upper grades the students are performing in choreographed pieces that are truly astonishing in their grace and complexity. 

Our school is fortunate in two ways: we have a eurythmy teacher with many years of experience and a piano accompanist that allows us to avoid recorded music.  All students from kindergarten through the eighth grade take part in this program.
